Rotary Clubs
Unlock long-term change with keyhole gardens
We’ve been working together with Rotary Clubs across the UK for over 30 years to bring hope and a positive ripple effect to poor communities in rural Africa.
Your Rotary Club can make a lasting difference by funding the seeds, tools and training so the mothers we work alongside can feed their children and send them to school.
This year, we’re challenging Rotary Clubs to raise £10,000 to provide 714 keyhole gardens across our programmes in rural Africa. How many will could your club fund?
A keyhole garden allows a family to grow enough food for three meals a day – even in the face of an extreme climate and poor soil. These gardens give fantastic results quickly providing nutritious vegetables for a balanced diet. The design of the circular raised bed incorporates a central basket where compostable waste is placed along with used water from the kitchen
Meselech, mother we work alongside in Ethiopia, is excited about the new ideas she has had since working with Ripple Effect. With hard work and determination, she has learned and implemented practical solutions, such as building a keyhole garden. A keyhole garden enables her to grow enough to eat and lift her family out of poverty – all in the face of extreme weather worsened by the climate crisis. She’s growing tomatoes, Swiss chard and spring onions this season in her garden.
