Our Impact

Ripple Effect’s work with farmers is holistic. That means we don’t just fix one problem and leave, we help to grow multiple solutions from within the community, and when combined, these create resilient progress.

Examples of Our Impact

When you empower women, you empower the whole community

Every project begins with workshops for families that help women take a more active part in family decision-making and reduce their unpaid workload. Our transformative method was developed in-house, but has gone on to influence many other organisations to work in a similar way. Why start with gender equality? Because when men and women work together, they can achieve so much more. When one person in a partnership or family is overburdened, everyone suffers.

Our work restores tired land

We are planting 44,000 fruit trees in our Responsible Carbon Project in Ethiopia, which will be nurtured by communities because they provide food, shade and income

We have installed rainwater harvesting capacity, to help farmers to weather climate-induced droughts.

The farmers we work with have produce organic compost, which improves crop yields and helps restore tired land.

We teach farmers to manage livestock sustainably

In rural Africa, livestock are often one of the best, locally appropriate solutions to malnutrition.

Industrial scale beef farming is contributing to the climate crisis, which threatens the livelihoods of the farmers we work alongside. But Ripple Effect farms use agroecological methods to make sure that livestock are managed sustainably, and actually support the restoration of tired land, rather than degrading it.

These farms are well-managed natural systems that sequester carbon overall. Learn more about our responsible livestock farming.

We build confident and thriving rural communities

Our projects support young people to start small businesses and stop the brain drain from rural areas.

Ripple Effect enables people to have access to microfinance through savings and loans associations, so they can invest in their businesses and save money for the future.
